The old fashion charm in move in condition!400+ acre natural glacier lake
The first structure on the property was a “fishing camp” which now serves as the garage. The building had a wood stove and an outhouse (now removed). The windows in the rear and side of the garage were added in 2010.
In the fifteen years we have owned the house we have made many improvements and renovations. When we purchased the house it had seven small bedrooms - four on the 2nd floor and three on the 3rd floor - but only one bathroom. We took the smallest of the 3rd floor bedrooms and converted it to another bath. The house also had checkered linoleum covering all the wood floors on the 1st floor. We refinished all of the wood floors, including the porch. Outside, we added the flagstone walks, paver parking pad/basketball court, stonewall and patios, landscaped the property and purchased new docks.
In 2006 we completed a major addition designed by architect Richard Pedranti. We removed the screened porch on the left side of the house and added a new kitchen, family room, master bedroom, master bath and large bedroom on the 3rd floor. A new roof was put on the house and the old boiler and radiators were replaced with a high efficiency, propane-fired hydronic heating system.
As we renovated, we preserved many original aspects of the home. The sink in the first floor bathroom is the original kitchen sink. The cabinet in the hallway off the dining room is the original kitchen cabinetry. The crystal light fixtures in two of the 3rd floor bedrooms were located in the living room when we bought the house. We elected not to paint any of the original woodwork. When we built the new family room we asked the builder, Dave Salmond (Salmond Builders), to match the coffered ceilings in the living and dining room in the new family room. He also matched the original trim including the newel post on the new staircase. We also added storage for boats under the new family room.
The property offers natural beauty and recreation in all seasons. In summer, Twin Lakes is ideal for swimming, fishing, sailing and kayaking. Children always gravitate to the treehouse. Watching the fireworks over the lake on the 4th of July is special. In winter, the lake freezes and the house is a peaceful place to escape to after the hubbub of the holidays. The Coursen Conservancy, a 300+ acre private nature preserve with paths that can be used for cross country skiing and hiking is a short walk up the road. The excellent restaurant “The Fork At Twin Lakes” is a mile and a half away. And the property is just 90 minutes away from many major suburban areas in NY and NJ.
