From the early 1900's up to 1940 Sears Roebuck and Company offered a "kit" house that was delivered to the building site by railroad car. These homes were very popular, and sales were brisk. This example is the "Crescent Model" (1921-1926) was marketed for "Folks who like a touch of individuality." The Crescent came in two sizes the "mama size" and the "papa size." From the front door, one enters into a large foyer/living room area with a fireplace on the far end of the room. The dining room is connected to living room by large wide cased pillared opening. One wall of the dining room consist of a full wall of windows and door leading to the enclosed unheated porch. From dining room you pass thru a walk in butler's pantry to the art deco tiled kitchen. The kitchen windows overlook the fenced backyard. The location of the this home has excellent access to Ayer Center shops and restaurants as well as the Fitchburg/Boston commuter rail station.
